DIANA STOUT, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW of the U.S.

Past National President Diana Stout of Charleston, West Virginia, is currently serving the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States as an alternate member of the 2002-2003 National Appeals & Grievances Committee & a member of the National Council of Administration. As 2001-2002 National President, she led the membership behind the theme, Liberty and Justice for All, which is derived from her background in law & one of the Auxiliary's main objects, to maintain & extend the institutions of American freedom & equal rights & justice to all men & women.  That theme took on added meaning in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. BETTY MORRIS (Mrs. Zarnoff), Aberdeen, MD, LAVFW National President 2002-2003
Betty Morris holds the distinctions of being the first black American & the first from Maryland to serve as the National President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.  She was elected to the Auxiliary's highest office at the 89th National Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, August 30, 2002.  Known as a "people-lover," during her 2002-03 term of office, she will build up the mentoring program, promote broader participation in junior Girls Units, and initiate several new membership benefits & awards to encourage the many women around the country who are eligible to join the Ladies Auxiliary.  She will also encourage members to raise $3 million for the Auxiliary Cancer Aid & Research program for the 15th consecutive year.  In her acceptance speech she introduced her theme, together Everyone Achieves Magic for Our Veterans.  Since its beginning in 1914, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW has worked to assist veterans.  Today the organization is also involved in various other endeavors, such as sponsoring scholarships & awards for students who participate in patriotic art, speech & volunteerism contests; donating goods & services to help the victims of violence, terrorism & natural disasters; and conducting a special birthday celebration on October 28th for the Statue of Liberty.   Originally a member of Charlton-Miller Auxiliary #6054, she is currently a Life Member of Darlington-Dublin Memorial Auxiliary #10146 in Darlington, Maryland. Her many positions on all levels of the organization include:  two terms as Auxiliary #6054 President; President & Honor Guard Captain for District 5; Eastern States Soloist from 1992-2000; Honorary Committee Member for the 1990 National Convention held in Baltimore; 1991 National Convention page for the Past National Presidents; National Assistant Soloist; and National Chairman for the Eastern Conference on the Rehabilitation program. She also was named Outstanding Department President when she served in that capacity in 1990-91, and was elected to represent Rhode Island & Maryland on the National Council of Administration for 1993-95.  She is eligible for the Auxiliary through her husband, Zarnoff F. Morris, a 22-year U.S. Army retiree who has been active in the VFW for more than 30 years.  They have five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
